One of the joys of stainless steel cabinetry is how little it asks of you. There is no sealing, no repainting, no refinishing. A few simple habits are all it takes to keep the surface looking as good as the day it was installed.
Everyday cleaning
For routine care, a soft cloth with warm water and a little mild dish soap is all you need. Wipe in the direction of the brushed grain, then dry with a clean microfibre cloth to avoid water spots. That is genuinely it for most days.
Removing fingerprints and smudges
On brushed and PVD surfaces, fingerprints wipe away easily. For a streak-free shine, a dedicated stainless steel cleaner or a tiny amount of glass cleaner works well — always finishing in the direction of the grain.
What to avoid
- Abrasive scrubbers, steel wool, or scouring pads — they scratch the finish
- Bleach and chloride-heavy cleaners — they can damage the passive layer over time
- Leaving standing water or salty residue to dry on the surface
- Cleaning against the grain, which can leave visible marks
Wipe with the grain, dry afterwards, skip the harsh chemicals — that is 95% of stainless steel care.
Long-term peace of mind
Because the finish is part of the steel rather than a coating that can wear off, stainless steel does not fade, peel, or need refinishing. Treat it kindly and a Zovia cabinet will look refined for the entire life of your home.
